**LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz.** — The Lake Havasu City Police Department has been awarded a $41,024 grant from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) to step up traffic enforcement.

The money comes through the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) and covers the 2026-2027 federal fiscal year, from Oct. 1, 2026, to Sept. 30, 2027.

The grant will pay for overtime shifts focused on speed enforcement using directional radar, and for additional speed radar units for officers. The department said the goal is to reduce crashes, deaths and injuries tied to speeding, aggressive driving, red-light running and other risky driving.

The department plans to combine enforcement with education and public awareness. As a condition of the grant, it will keep and regularly report traffic enforcement statistics to GOHS.
