Mohave County Warns of Email Scam Using Fake Planning Commission Invoices

Fraudulent emails posing as the county's Planning and Zoning Commission are demanding 'application processing fees' of $3,600 or more. The county says real Development Services email comes only from @mohave.gov addresses.
KINGMAN, Ariz. — Mohave County Development Services is warning residents and property owners about scam emails that pose as the county's Planning and Zoning Commission and demand payment of an application processing fee.
According to the county, the messages use county logos and official-sounding language and typically ask for $3,600 or more. Some include links or attachments that can lead to phishing websites or malware, and many pressure recipients to pay quickly.
The county listed several warning signs. The sender may be labeled "Planning Commission," which is not the official name of the county body, and the sender's email address may be slightly altered or misspelled.
Development Services advises residents not to click links or open attachments in unsolicited emails, to check that any official message comes from an @mohave.gov address, and not to pay an invoice unless they are sure it is legitimate. Suspicious emails should be deleted, and anyone with doubts should call Development Services directly to verify.
